Platform Engineer

The Database Platform Engineer is a key member of the Infrastructure Engineering team at ITJ, responsible for database administration operations. This role focuses on managing database server architecture, implementing best practices, and ensuring system scalability, security, performance, and availability across the enterprise. Core Responsibilities: Database Management & Operations Install, configure, and maintain various database systems, including SQL Server, PostgreSQL 90% of DBAs, MySQL, and MongoDB in both AWS cloud and on-premises environments. Implement and manage database upgrades, patches, and maintenance tasks through automation. Design and execute blue-green database upgrade strategies to minimize downtime and risk during migrations. Monitor performance, conduct capacity planning, and ensure high availability of database systems. Set up and manage database monitoring tools for diagnostics and performance optimization. Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues across development, QA, and production environments. Data Integration & Migration Design and implement data migration strategies, with particular focus on cloud migrations. Develop data movement solutions using SQL Server Integration Services, TSQL, and Stored Procedures. Configure and troubleshoot AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) tasks Create and maintain data integration documentation and standard operating procedures Partner with application teams to establish data cleansing, modeling, and migration procedures. Infrastructure & Architecture Provide database infrastructure and architecture recommendations to support business needs. Implement database automation using Terraform, Ansible, and other cloud automation tools. Design and configure database clusters for optimal performance and reliability. Contribute to cloud strategy development with a focus on database services. Ensure adherence to change management processes and security standards. Collaboration & Support Serve as a technical resource to business partners throughout development and implementation processes. Collaborate with business analysts and subject matter experts to determine data requirements. Work cross-functionally with IT operations teams to optimize database environments. Conduct integration testing and maintain all database systems and integrations. Assist with incident resolution and problem management. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Sciences, or related fields (preferred) 5 years of experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). 5 years of experience in T-SQL and writing efficient and highly optimized SQL queries. 4 years of complete data analysis/mapping and data profiling. 4 years of experience setting up SQL Server and PostgreSQL for large database environments and geographically distributed production data centers 3 years of experience in database modeling and data design of OLTP and OLAP applications. 3 years of experience with retrieving and loading data from/to various SaaS-based cloud platforms. 3 years of experience with Agile methodologies. 3 years of experience in Amazon Web Services or other cloud environments. Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation. Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. On-call meetings, including weekends. Preferred Qualifications Microsoft SQL Server DBA Certification and/or AWS Database Certification or equivalent. Experience with PostgreSQL in the cloud, including Amazon RDS. Experience with MySQL, MongoDB, and MariaDB. Hands-on experience with database automation tools including Terraform and Ansible. Strong knowledge of database migration techniques, particularly on-premises to cloud transitions. Understanding of database security best practices and compliance requirements.
