Senior Visual Basic Developer - Object Modeling

Job Description : We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Visual Basic 6.0 Developer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and potentially modernizing our existing critical applications built using Visual Basic 6.0. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in VB6 development, a deep understanding of related technologies such as COM/COM, ActiveX controls, and Windows APIs, and a solid grasp of database interactions with SQL Server or Oracle. Your strong debugging and problem-solving abilities will be essential in ensuring the stability and functionality of our legacy systems. Responsibilities : - Primarily responsible for the maintenance, support, and enhancement of existing applications developed in Visual Basic 6.0. - Analyze, debug, and resolve complex issues within VB6 applications. - Work extensively with COM (Component Object Model) and COM technologies. - Develop and integrate ActiveX controls as needed. - Utilize Windows APIs to interact with the operating system and extend application functionality. - Design and implement data access solutions using ADO (ActiveX Data Objects) or DAO (Data Access Objects). - Develop and maintain reports using Crystal Reports. - Interact with and write queries and stored procedures for SQL Server and/or Oracle databases. - Troubleshoot and optimize database interactions within VB6 applications. - Collaborate with other team members to understand requirements and implement solutions. - Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards. - (Optional) Utilize version control tools such as VSS (Visual SourceSafe) or Git for code management. - Contribute to efforts to document existing systems and any implemented changes. - Potentially participate in projects to migrate or modernize existing VB6 applications to newer technologies. Requirements : - Proven and strong experience (typically 5 years) in developing and maintaining applications using Visual Basic 6.0. - Deep understanding and practical experience with COM (Component Object Model) and COM technologies. - Hands-on experience in developing and integrating ActiveX controls. - Solid understanding of Windows APIs and their utilization in VB6 applications. - Good understanding of relational databases, specifically SQL Server and/or Oracle. - Proficient in writing SQL queries and stored procedures for SQL Server and/or Oracle. - Experience with Crystal Reports for generating and maintaining reports. - Familiarity with ADO (ActiveX Data Objects) or DAO (Data Access Objects) for database connectivity. - Strong debugging and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex issues in legacy VB6 applications. - Excellent analytical and logical thinking abilities. - Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Nice to Have : - Familiarity with version control tools such as VSS (Visual SourceSafe) or Git. - Experience with any efforts to migrate or modernize VB6 applications. - Knowledge of scripting languages.
