Job Description

Job Purpose The Junior Financial Manager plays a vital support role within the finance department, focusing on financial reporting, compliance, and operational finance. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic transport industry environment. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Compliance Assist in preparing accurate interim and year-end financial statements in line with accounting standards. Ensure compliance with SARS and other relevant regulatory bodies. Monitor and implement changes in financial regulations and accounting practices. Provide full support during external audits, including documentation preparation and audit file compilation. Taxation & Regulatory Submissions Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns in line with statutory deadlines. Perform monthly reconciliations of VAT and Income Tax control accounts. Assist with NBCRFLI-related financial tasks to ensure compliance with industry-specific requirements. Operational Finance & Transport Industry Tasks Oversee daily financial operations such as supplier payments, customer invoicing, and payroll coordination. Support cost tracking related to fuel, tolls, tyres, and maintenance, and assist in route profitability analysis. Collaborate with depot and operations teams to provide real-time financial insights. Ensure accurate allocation and reporting of fleet-related expenses. Execute daily operational finance tasks to maintain efficient workflows. Handle ad hoc finance and accounting tasks as assigned by the Financial Manager. Minimum Qualifications and Experience Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (e.g., BCom or equivalent). Completed articles (SAIPA, SAICA, or CIMA). Experience: Minimum 5 years experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or similar finance roles. Demonstrated ability to prepare financial statements and manage compliance. Prior experience in the transport/logistics industry is preferred. Skills and Competencies Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards. Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage Evolution, Pastel) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-departmental coordination. Effective time management and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Sound knowledge of South African tax regulations, including VAT and PAYE.
