Job Description

Cavalier Logistics is seeking a full-time Assistant Controller for its Finance department. The Assistant Controller is responsible for maintaining internal controls and supports financial reporting. In this role, the Assistant Controller must be able to apply knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and to provide accurate financial data for management. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Support the finance team’s implementation of improved accounting processes and/or software systems. Review cash reconciliations daily. Record and reconcile credit card transactions monthly. Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly. Monitor AR to ensure that credits on the accounts are cleared timely. Work with AP to ensure that prepaids and over and under are closed out timely. Assist Controller with month-end closing and general ledger entries as needed. Assist the controller with the annual audit. Assist Controller with regulatory reporting. Serve as a backup for cash applications, accounts payable and payroll. Requirements: Proficiency in accounts receivable management and cash handling procedures. Strong understanding of corporate accounting principles and practices. Experience with account analysis techniques to identify discrepancies or trends. Familiarity with debits, credits, and general ledger maintenance. Knowledge of financial software applications used for budgeting and reporting. Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail. Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Solid understanding of GAAP standards and compliance requirements. Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members across departments. Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or Business Administration or equivalent work experience. Minimum of five years’ experience in an accounting role. Experience with financial and bank accounting reporting systems – Sage 100 and ADP is a plus.
