Role Description We are looking for a Special Machines Mechanical Engineer who will collaborate on the Lead Fast Reactor (LFR) design activities and experimental facilities. The focus is on the mechanical design of complex machines, mechanisms, and robotics applications, particularly in extreme environmental conditions such as molten lead. Main Activities Ensure the execution of design activities for special machines in the field of LFR, following best engineering practices and exploring innovative solutions. Participate in defining the operational sequence of procedures. Develop the design of bespoke components and mechanisms from concept to detailed design, integrating mechanical, automation, and electrical aspects. Review 3D models and interfaces within BIM and PLM systems. Define stress analysis methodologies for bespoke components using Finite Element Modelling, in accordance with applicable codes. Assist in drafting technical documentation for component procurement. Evaluate and align manufacturer bids for equipment supply. Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and studies. Supervise manufacturer deliveries, manage non-conformities, and oversee expediting processes. Verify the technical accuracy of engineering documents delegated by the Line Manager. Contribute to updating company specifications and procedures. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and coordinate work with technical personnel. Promote a work environment based on openness, trust, communication, teamwork, and innovation. Desired Qualifications Degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Robotics Engineering; Master’s or PhD is a plus. Fluent in Italian and English; French is a plus. Experience in design, prototyping, fabrication, and assembly of complex machines and bespoke components. Knowledge of components like motors, gears, sensors for extreme environments. Experience with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NUREG, FEM, RCC-MRX, EURO codes) is advantageous. Proficiency in ANSYS Mechanical, Multiphysics, and SolidWorks is a plus. Understanding of welding and non-destructive testing on complex machines is beneficial. Experience in nuclear or highly regulated environments and safety considerations are advantageous. Strong knowledge of QA systems. Experience of up to 5 years in mechanical design for special machinery, depending on seniority.
