Engineering Manager/Maintenance Manager

Hyatt Centric Murano Venice is seeking a passionate, hands-on Engineering Manager to oversee our hotel's maintenance operations, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency while fostering growth within the hotel industry. Responsibilities Supervise repair, maintenance, and engineering operations according to departmental standards. Coordinate and direct new projects, making detailed plans and integrating technical activities. Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess project feasibility. Handle and maintain all power tools properly. Assist other tradespersons or technicians as requested by superiors. Read and assess utility and equipment logs, taking corrective actions in consultation with GM if necessary. Maintain an inventory of engineering supplies and ensure the availability of essential parts. Monitor fuel consumption patterns and stock levels, implementing corrective measures. Ensure cleanliness and safety of all plant and mechanical equipment rooms. Review logs of team briefings and de-briefings daily, providing guidance. Create a monthly training plan in coordination with the training manager. Train engineering staff on maintenance procedures and assist with repairs. Modify installations to minimize material waste and facilitate future maintenance. Ensure safety, compliance with regulations, and maintain a hazard-free environment. Maintain cleanliness of work areas and protect surroundings during duties. Perform repairs and maintenance in guest rooms, public, and service areas. Inspect the building regularly, focusing on safety features and operating equipment. Manage preventive maintenance programs effectively. Develop and manage energy conservation initiatives to reduce expenses. Ensure fire, life, and safety systems are operational. Handle service recovery based on guest feedback. Review and approve invoices and purchase requests related to technical services and equipment. Ensure compliance with local and national codes, reporting non-compliance to the GM. Collaborate with other departments to support overall hotel success and guest satisfaction. Promote teamwork and support among engineering staff. Participate in meetings and pass relevant information to the engineering team. Assist in managing costs while delivering quality service. Maximize employee productivity through multi-skilling and flexible scheduling. Personnel Oversee punctuality and appearance of engineering staff, ensuring adherence to grooming standards. Maximize the potential of the engineering team focusing on operations, guests, employees, and owners’ satisfaction. Assign, direct, evaluate staff work, and support their professional development. Develop staff skills through training, coaching, and mentoring. Implement innovative ideas and improvements. Conduct annual performance discussions and support career development. Encourage creativity and recognize contributions. Reinforce Hyatt’s values and ensure staff adherence to rules and safety regulations. Address employee feedback and implement necessary changes. Administration Align engineering activities with corporate strategy and hotel actions. Represent engineering on the hotel's executive committee. Perform administrative duties such as report writing, expenditure analysis, and procurement decisions. Conduct departmental meetings and briefings. Maintain accurate records of all plant and equipment. Prepare reports for the General Manager and discuss maintenance status and inspections. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years in a similar hotel role, with a proven track record of collaboration and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills in English and Italian. Experience in engineering, preferably in hotels, with knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and building codes. Familiarity with procurement, scheduling programs, and troubleshooting.
