Penetration Tester

An IT Company based in Parktown, Johannesburg, has a vacancy available for an intermediate to senior Penetration Tester to become part of their Security Operations team. The ideal candidate needs to have a strong understanding of computer networks, security protocols, and hacking techniques, with the ability to ethically simulate cyberattacks to identify and exploit vulnerabilities in systems, applications, and networks, while producing detailed reports with remediation recommendations, requiring skills in scripting, various penetration testing tools, and excellent communication to explain findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. Key responsibilities: Conducting penetration tests: Performing systematic scans and assessments of systems, networks, and applications to identify potential security weaknesses. Vulnerability assessment: Utilizing automated and manual techniques to discover vulnerabilities in software, configurations, and protocols. Exploit development: Understanding and utilizing known exploits to test the severity of vulnerabilities. Reporting and remediation: Creating detailed reports outlining identified vulnerabilities, their potential impact, and recommended mitigation strategies. Threat modeling: Analyzing potential attack vectors and threat scenarios to prioritize testing efforts. Requirements: Diploma or Degree in computer science, information security, or related field, or relevant cybersecurity certifications (OSCP, CEH, CISSP) At least 4 years of hands-on experience in penetration testing and vulnerability assessments Experience with different testing methodologies (black box, grey box, white box) Strong Working Knowledge of Networking and Network Protocols Expertise in operating systems Proficiency in scripting languages Familiarity with web application security concepts Understanding of cryptography and secure coding practices Experience with penetration testing tools Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities Strong communication skills, both written and verbal Attention to detail and ability to work independently Teamwork and collaboration skills Ability to adapt to changing technologies and security landscapes
