Job Description
The Senior Accountant is a dynamic role assisting with technical accounting, internal financial reporting and will be responsible for the maintenance of Vapotherm's standard costing system including, but not limited to, labor analysis, cost reduction projects, variance tracking, and job closings. Areas of focus will include Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and R&D. The Senior Accountant requires written and verbal fluency in Spanish and English at a B2 level or higher The Senior Accountant analyzes material, labor, or other expenses to determine production costs, cost of sales, or other cost-related performance measures. This position is responsible for capturing and classifying cost data to determine the cost associated with products/product lines, projects, or departments, providing cost-related data in support of business decisions or for use in financial reporting and participating in or overseeing regular inventory cycle counts. Additionally, this position conducts inventory and warranty reserve analysis on a quarterly basis and generate reports for senior management. Primary Responsibilities: Assist with preparation, reconciliation and tie-out of financial statements Perform flux analysis - actual versus plan, year over year Create and maintain Vapotherm's cost accounting methodology Provide input into weekly cross-functional COGS meetings, working closely with the FP&A and Ops functions Monitor and track PPV, Material, Labor and OH variances Enhance and manage the overhead and variance capitalization policy in conjunction with the Accounting Supervisor and/or Assistant Controller BOM analysis and maintenance as required Complete required month-end, year-end audit and Board materials in a timely manner Prepare COGS-related monthly journal entries manually or by initiating electronic creation through our software program, review journal entries carefully for anomalies and other inconsistencies Review rates of depreciation, labor and overhead Monitor inventory transactions and cycle count results Generate PPV reports and weekly operations scorecard Review and sign off on Engineering change orders Review open orders and bill of material Review various cost and labor allocations Responsible for reserves analysis and inventory accounting/reconciliation Responsible for all Cost related controls Work with Assistant Controller and/or Accounting Supervisor on all Cost related process improvement initiatives Assist with suggesting and implementing changes to policies or procedures to increase transparency and support business decisions Position Requirements - Education, Knowledge, Years of Experience, etc.: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA or equivalent a plus 2-4 years of progressive cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment Able to speak, understand, and write in English and Spanish at a B2 or higher level. Working knowledge of ERP systems, report writing tools, Microsoft Office Suite Solid understanding of the core elements in a standard cost system and the ability to construct and analyze the standard costs of our products Strong problem-solving skills and experience, ability to work both independently and as a team member.
