Job Description
The Senior EHS Manager will lead and oversee all activities related to Industrial Safety, Environmental Protection, and Occupational Health, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards at our manufacturing plant, while promoting a culture of safety across the facility. Development and Oversight of Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Management Policies Design, implement, and update industrial safety, occupational health, and environmental policies and procedures, with a special focus on the handling of hazardous materials. Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate potential hazards. Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international safety, health, and environmental regulations, including hazardous materials management. Design and implement occupational health programs that address ergonomic risks, exposure to harmful substances, and other factors affecting employee health. Develop strategies to promote holistic well-being, including preventive campaigns and health promotion activities. Coordinate with medical services and specialists for employee health monitoring and follow-up. Establish processes for the comprehensive management of waste and emissions, ensuring compliance with current environmental legislation. Promote energy efficiency and the sustainable use of natural resources. Risk Management Lead the investigation of incidents and accidents related to industrial, environmental, and occupational safety. Implement corrective and preventive actions based on investigation findings. Maintain detailed records of all incidents and corrective actions. Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with handling hazardous materials. Develop and execute accident prevention and emergency management programs. Design and implement comprehensive emergency response plans covering industrial safety, occupational health, and environmental emergencies. Coordinate regular drills and training to prepare employees for potential contingencies in all risk areas. Conduct risk assessments and ensure their awareness and implementation. Create and review risk mitigation or elimination plans derived from assessments. Lead the Incident Command System. Training and Development Develop and implement safety, health, and environmental training programs for all employees, with special emphasis on hazardous materials handling. Stay current with best practices and technologies in industrial safety, health, and environmental protection. Develop and coordinate training programs on safe practices and emergency procedures. Collaborate with other departments to ensure that safety, health, and environmental policies are embedded in all production processes. Organize workshops, courses, and drills to strengthen the preventive culture at all levels of the organization. Encourage active participation and clear communication among teams, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and respect for health and the environment. Incident Investigation Lead the investigation of accidents and incidents, identify root causes, and develop corrective and preventive action plans. Prepare detailed incident reports and present recommendations to senior management. Ensure closure of investigations in accordance with applicable regulations and disciplinary procedures. Supervision and Audits Conduct regular internal audits to evaluate the effectiveness of EHS programs. Oversee maintenance and calibration of safety and personal protective equipment. Supervise and audit regulatory compliance in occupational health, safety, and environmental matters. Collaboration and Communication Work closely with other departments (production, quality, maintenance, etc.) to ensure a safe work environment. Foster a safety culture through effective communication and active participation at all organizational levels. Ensure coordination between Corporate Security and EHS departments. Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to industrial safety, explosive materials handling, environmental control, and occupational health. Conduct internal and external EHS audits and coordinate with regulatory authorities. Continuous Improvement Propose and implement continuous improvements in EHS processes. Participate in the plant’s strategic planning and decision-making. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related field. At least 10 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably in a manufacturing plant handling hazardous materials such as gunpowder. In-depth knowledge of safety, environmental, and occupational health regulations (OSHA, NFPA, etc.). Proven experience in risk management and safety management systems implementation. Strong leadership and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and make quick, informed decisions effectively during emergencies. Industrial safety certifications (CSP, CIH, etc.) are highly desirable. Solid knowledge of national and international regulations. Experience dealing with regulatory bodies such as the Ministry of Labor (STPS), National Water Commission (CONAGUA), Civil Protection, PROFEPA, SEMARNAT, etc. Work Conditions: Manufacturing plant in Cuernavaca, Morelos.
