Job Description

The Weld Quality Engineer (Level DOE) position is responsible for monitoring and driving improvements to the quality of components or products produced in area of responsibility, justifying and leading projects that permanently resolve systemic issues and improve quality capabilities, and actively participating on cross functional project teams ensuring that the proper steps are being taken to improve quality. This position requires familiarity and expertise in quality systems and is actively involved in developing the quality capabilities of the organization. Role & Responsibilities Quality Governance Oversee key elements of the quality system for quality assurance and quality control in welding and in the weld quality lab. Work in area of responsibility to monitor, prioritize, and communicate quality related information from internal and external sources. Define and coordinate audits and assessments on products and processes that ensure outgoing products are free of defects and comply to specifications. This includes validation of new and/or changes to designs, process, fixtures, and equipment. Supervise the activities of engineers and interns in completion of assigned tasks and projects. Non-Conforming Materials Oversee monitoring quality of supplied and/or internally manufactured components and products for conformance to specification . Ensure that the appropriate metrology equipment are used to assess product quality, and remove non-conforming materials from production. Drive corrective action on non-conforming materials and secure deviations in situations where non-conforming materials may be temporarily allowed. Follow-up on field communications and lead containment activities that may be required. Corrective Actions and Improvements Lead projects that permanently resolve systemic issues and improve quality capabilities. Continuously monitor and address emerging issues while ensuring the most important items are being addressed. Prioritize, recommend, secure resources, and drive completion of assigned projects in the shortest time possible. Control Plan Execution Review and drive updates to standard work, processes, tools, measurements, checks, and training used to ensure complete and consistent work is performed. Ensure designated calibrated equipment is available and that calibrations are maintained. Ensure people are trained on control plan elements and that control plans are sustained. Quality Capability Development Identify opportunities, oversee measurement systems analyses, procure measurement equipment, and implement process monitoring and controls capabilities that improve visibility to the health of our process, compliance to specifications, traceability, and accountability. Complete justifications to secure the resources necessary to successfully complete projects. Train less experienced personnel on quality related techniques and procedures. Job Requirement Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field. Equivalent allowed. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification desired. In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Demonstrated experience with similar product and/or manufacturing processes. Understanding of company systems, processes, and procedures. Demonstrated strong problem solving skills. Demonstrated strong communication skills. Demonstrated project management skills. 5-7 years experience. Less than 10% travel required.
