Job Description

The Tongaat Hulett Technical Services Group provides support to the business in Engineering, Projects, Sugar Technology support and development. The Engineering function of the Technical Services Group provides Mechanical, Electrical and Control & Instrumentation Engineering expertise and services to Tongaat Huletts operations in South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe as well as to Capital Projects and to Technology and Product Development. The Asset Care Specialist is required to provide specialist expertise in asset care through: Set group standards in terms of Asset Care Policy and associated policies/frameworks Establish a suitable scorecard to evaluate the asset care methodology employed at each operation and provide support for improvement. Involved in all aspects of plant and equipment life cycle planning and management Involved in the design and implementation of immediate and long-term plans to realise equipment name plate capacity and uptime Continuously creating and implementing plans to enhance existing maintenance programs to deliver improved reliability Playing a key role in the building of asset care competence in the organisation by providing coaching, training, and expertise in the application and rollout of asset care methodology Taking ownership of the rollout of engineering standards, procedures, and best practice Conducting audits to establish performance and developing plans to close out gaps as identified Analysing plant and equipment performance and providing direction on the necessary activities to improve plant and equipment reliability Driving, coordinating, and implementing formalised problem-solving techniques to prevent recurring engineering downtime. Optimise equipment performance by using the root causes to update the schedules in the maintenance package. SAP PM schedule improvements will be a key metric for this role. Condition monitoring technologies and processes should be included as a key theme in route cause analysis and subsequent schedule updates. Working in collaboration with senior technical staff (Ops execs, GMs, Engineering Managers) to improve equipment performance and reliability Ensuring adequacy of change management interventions across sites Fostering knowledge sharing and best practice Fostering a culture of striving to be world class through continuous improvement activities Playing a critical role in leading the implementation of Asset Care on a per-site basis and actively seeking out the best solutions and alternatives to optimising the performance and reliability of assets Keeping up to date with industry developments in asset care via literature reviews and industry networking, and disseminating learnings to Tongaat Hulett factories Playing a critical role in the detail of the annual shut plans for each plant ensuring the optimal allocation of resources to both the preparation and actual shut. This will be with the declared intent that reliance on annual shuts should be reduced by better planning throughout the year. The role requires periodic travel to operations across South Africa and outside of South Africa including Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Qualifications & Experience BSc Eng (Mechanical/Electrical), from an institution accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa for registration as a Professional Engineer. BTech Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, from an institution accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa for registration as a Professional Technologist. 5-8 years of engineering experience in a heavy industrial process environment with focus on equipment design, maintenance, operation, and performance optimisation.
