Job Description

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB The core purpose of this nGAP academic post is to facilitate and administer research, teaching, learning, and engagement in Architectural Technology, specifically in the field of Digital Technologies. With particular reference to developing new skill sets from an understanding of BIM systems in construction for Architectural Technologist students in related modules. Our future graduates will play a critical role in the built environment not only with regard to the design of buildings, but also with regard to their management and the delivery of projects using complex modelling systems. The Academic post will also be involved in the core functions of the University. The nGAP programme is a DHET funded programme initiated to transform Higher Education by recruiting new academics to Universities in line with specific development plans and to enable these academics to benefit from teaching and research development opportunities. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Facilitate effective teaching and learning in the field of Digital Technologies within the Department of Architectural Technology & Interior Design. Undertake subject related to the Architectural Technology program while conducting research around Digital Technologies. Assume responsibility for course materials, lectures, tutorials and assessment of modules. Provide research supervision to post-graduate students in related research areas. Perform administration relating to the above performance areas as well as other academic related functions. Publish independent article in the field of Digital Technologies. Will be expected to meet the set expectations in relation to research as well as targets and timeframes for speci&64257;c milestones to be achieved. CORE COMPETENCIES Ability to facilitate teaching and learning (preparations for lectures, teaching, marking, administrative work and community involvement); Ability to conduct research & must acknowledge commitment to the successful completion of the PhD within 4-6 years at the Nelson Mandela University (The nGAP SSAUF addendum will be signed to this effect) Have the potential to grow in teaching and research in Digital Technologies. A sound knowledge of BIM software in Architecture and proof of its application within the Construction industry. Experience using Digital Technologies. In-depth knowledge of design process and design studio management at undergraduate and advanced diploma levels. In-depth knowledge in advanced building construction concepts, techniques and systems and building regulations. In-depth knowledge of Architectural software such as AUTOCAD, SKETCH-UP, COREL SUIT, REVIT and/or 3Dsmax. Strong skills in working with students, communication, modern construction software and related activities, and a pro-active nature relative to students, academia, industry and professional association liaison and development. Ability or potential to supervise post-graduate students in the field of research, and; Ability or potential in research publishing. REQUIREMENTS To be considered for appointment to this position, preference will be given to candidates who have: A Masters Degree in Architecture M.Arch or a Masters in Technology M.Tech with a related Thesis research topic around the Design of a Technologically driven building or are repository of Digital knowledge systems; Should have graduated from the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) accredited institution. Meet the requirement of the nGAP programme with an average of at least 70% for their Masters degree. Demonstrable the ability to become a successful academic. nGAP appointees must be South African citizens or permanent residents in South Africa. The appointment will fall under the Department's transformation agenda as motivated in its nGAP approved application, and shortlisting processes will align with the institution's transformation and equity policies. Must have a professional registration (professional Architect) with SACAP or equivalent. A minimum of 2 years professional practice experience. The applicant must submit their academic results and a A3 portfolio of his/her selected work undertaken in private practice (Technological Architectural experience will be given preferences).
