Job Description


Hood Container Corporation (HCC) is seeking a dynamic leader to join our team as a Packaging Solutions Project Engineer. The individual in this position is responsible for leading projects including fulfillment process & equipment improvements and capital proposals/justifications. This position requires a broad knowledge of the fulfilment activities in order to apply continuous improvement to all aspects of the business. This position requires project management experience from defining the project, working with vendors/contractors to receive quotations, writing capital project justifications, writing purchase orders, creating/maintaining project timelines, overseeing project activities, attending factory acceptance tests (FATs), to overseeing installation and training. This individual will interact across all levels including management, technical, office, and hourly employees. Research, development, and implementation of new processes, procedures, equipment, and training of operators and maintenance staff are required. This position requires an individual who possesses a self-starting & diligent work ethic and is able to work independently toward project delivery without daily direction/supervision.

Reports to the Regional Engineering Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Lead or support equipment purchase projects, equipment productivity/process improvement initiatives using project management methodologies
  2. Assist the Regional Engineering Manager with project selection and prioritization.
  3. Manage projects in such a way as to meet or exceed internal and external customer expectations. Possess and continually update knowledge of fulfillment processes and materials. Develop and maintain relationships with packaging and packaging equipment suppliers/vendors. Effectively communicate project status through verbal and written reports.
  4. Provide fulfillment equipment expertise and technical support. Improve existing equipment and manufacturing processes to maximize productivity and throughput while maintaining or exceeding quality requirements. Manage fulfillment equipment projects from initial research, through economic justification, purchase, qualification, installation, and start-up.
  5. Provide staff engineering support to multiple plants as necessary.

Secondary Responsibilities

  1. Provides support and assistance to industrial engineering and operations.
  2. Provides technical assistance to maintenance department.
  3. Performs all other duties as assigned, may include travel (less than 10%)

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Broad knowledge and experience with various type of packaging and fulfillment equipment.
  2. Four-year degree in Engineering or other related field of study. A combination of higher education and work experience may also be acceptable.
  3. Three to five years of successful project engineering experience in a like or related industry.
  4. Strong emphasis on Project Management skills, effective problem-solving methodology and mechanical aptitude.
  5. Well organized and detail oriented, with strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-pressured, team environment, on multiple projects

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and / or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The access to the work environment is ground level.

Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, safety glasses, earplugs or earmuffs and safety shoes may be required to perform job tasks.

Employment with Hood Container Corporation is voluntarily entered into, and employees are free to resign at will at any time, with or without cause.
