The Council is a dynamic, non-profit association located in the urban hub of Penn Quarter, just steps away from the Navy/Archives Metro station. Representing the top commercial brokerage firms and agencies in the United States and around the world, The Council is currently seeking a Director of International. This position is responsible for leading efforts in cultivating, managing, and strengthening existing relationships with The Council’s international members as well as the international leads of our US-based agencies. This includes the development of programs, market intelligence, and resources that international agencies can lean on for operational and strategic support. Additionally, the Director of International will identify, qualify, and prospect new member firms to enroll for membership each year.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Primary contact and relationship manager for Council member firms domiciled outside of the United States and international insurance experts from The Council’s US-based member firms.
  • Responsible for overseeing the International Working Group, a forum for brokers and agents with global clients to exchange views with peers, strengthen existing ties and launch new partnerships with other market leaders.
  • Generate a global business content strategy for CIAB and Leader’s Edge magazine, including creating the business program for the International Working Group and contributing original content to Leader’s Edge, which includes a distribution list of over 21,000 insurance professionals
  • Develop strategic initiatives and deliver business intelligence with a focus on global business and cross-border insurance placements to support member firm growth
  • Act as resource for international members in regard to advocacy updates and market intelligence.
  • In coordination with VP of Membership and the Membership Team;
    1. Perform research to identify target markets for International membership growth
    2. Develop pipeline of prospective international Council members
    3. Engage prospective members and promote benefits associated with joining the Council
    4. Guide new international members through the onboarding process

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to build relationships with individuals with diverse personalities and styles and at different levels of seniority
  • Ability to organize and implement projects and tasks, set priorities, coordinate and monitor assignments to maximize efficiency and quality
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Creative and analytical thinker with ability to proactively develop new ideas
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Detail-oriented; ability to effectively collect, analyze, organize, distill and present information


  • International work experience a plus.
  • Bi-lingual candidates preferred.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in all MS Office applications required.

Physical Demands: Visual ability for reading and reviewing written materials. Hearing and verbal ability to fully participate and interact in meetings and forums. Manual dexterity for writing and/or typing to produce copy and other written materials.

Other: Domestic and international travel is required to attend meetings, conferences and strengthen relationships with Council members and prospective members. Overtime may be required in order to meet the objectives of this position.
